About Ron Porritt
I am a Michigander, and Up North has always pulled at my heart strings. Up North is where wild things silence the noises of life, awe me with the unexpected, and ground me in reality. When I got out of the service in 1974, the first thing I did was grab a tent and go Up North to re-connect with “me”.
When I first saw Isle Royale, it was on snowshoes in May of 2013 with winter refusing to loosen her grip. This became one of the most fascinating experiences of my life. Such a grand introduction brought me into the intrigue of a predator/prey study and an island ecosystem I didn’t know enough about.
In an attempt at self-education and advocacy I plowed through the Internet. It was like assembling a puzzle with too many worn and missing pieces. I didn’t know how much of the story I was missing, how to find what was missing, or how to be a positive element in Isle Royale issues. My venture in learning and involvement was frustrating, but galvanizing, bringing me to a point where I refused to be too small to matter. Then in late 2014, a friend and neighbor offered to provide all of the web hosting and design services if I provided the content. That offer provided a much needed next step forward.
This web site was born of a desire to educate. The intent is to give structure to the issues facing us on Isle Royale without taking sides. Other than the structure this site provides, the real content will be in links. The links contain the information we need to study, digest, and respond to. In the end, we hope this site helps you become educated and involved.
A well-educated populace is our best opportunity for good decisions.
